Vintage Kawasaki Motocross Motorcycles
Kawasaki's Aircraft Company began the development of a motorcycle engine in 1949. The development was completed in 1952 and mass production started in 1953. The engine was an air-cooled, 148 cc, OHV, 4-stroke single cylinder with a maximum power of 4 PS (2.9 kW; 3.9 hp) at 4,000 rpm. In 1954 the first complete Kawasaki Motorcycle was produced under the name of Meihatsu, a subsidiary of Kawasaki Aircraft. In 1960 Kawasaki completed construction of a factory dedicated exclusively to motorcycle production and bought Meguro Motorcycles. Kawasaki has since then become one of the world's major motorcycle manufacturers.
The Kawasaki KX series would be revolutionized from the B8M series, and eventually became the most popular of the Kawasaki models. The two-stroke KDX series was extremely popular as well, especially in enduro racing. While two-stroke bikes were the popular versions in the past, environmental concerns have forced companies to invest in making four-strokes that are light and easy to control, as well as environmentally friendly. This led to the emergence of the KX 250F and KX450F.
The Kawasaki F81M "Green Streak" was a 250cc, 2-stroke, off-road motorcycle manufactured by Kawasaki only for the production year of 1971 as part of the successful Kawasaki F-series which began with the Kawasaki F4 238cc in 1969. The F81M was the racing version of the Kawasaki F8 and had raised fenders, an expansion chamber, and used a bean oil-fuel mixture as opposed to oil injection into the combustion chamber. The F81M shared the early 1970s racing stage with the Kawasaki G31M "Centurian" 100cc Flat Track -Tourist Trophy-motocross motorcycle. The F81M was replaced in 1974 with the Kawasaki KX250, a true motocross bike.
